I didn’t know when I started reading this where it would go and I have to say, I love where it went. Thought-provoking and touching on a range of subjects that are relevant but not typically associated. Thank you for highlighting Barthes. I look forward to reading some of his essays although it is unlikely I will be doing it at more than a visceral level.

Several years ago, I gave a talk where I compared his autobiography (Roland Barthes by Roland Barthes) to the kind of writing that's typical of blogging, and that might be a nice place to start, if you're looking for one. It's an easy book to read in pieces, because it was written that way--it's not as formal as his earlier work. For me, RB by RB cuts to the core of the joy that he found in writing, which has always resonated with me...
